Christchurch Polytechnic, New Zealand. Also hospital based training in Timaru and Dunedin.

How long was your training?

4 years

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I work as Charge of Fluoroscopy, I enjoy the running of this service and the challenges it brings.

What is the most challenging/difficult part of your job and why?

Teaching students and staff is always a challenge, as everyone learns in a different way. I like to get a student/MRT doing the procedures in the room, as the more that they are involved I feel the more they learn and remember.

How many patients do you help each week approximately?

We perform between 30-45 examinations a week.

What is the most memorable or happiest moment of your radiography career and why?

My happiest moment was at the start of my career, finding out I had passed all my exams and was a qualified MRT.

If you could change or improve one thing about your working life, what would it be?

I would like to have more knowledge to effectively teach the registrars in our department.

Have you ever worked as a radiographer outside your home country? If not, have you considered it?

I have never worked outside New Zealand, but would consider my options when the right circumstances arise.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about becoming a radiographer?

Radiography is a great choice of career, allowing you to help people in the public or private system. There are good opportunities for employment in a range of countries, in general or specialist areas.

How do you see the role of the radiographer/technologist developing in the future?

I see MRTs increasing their responsibilities and knowledge by taking on different areas of reporting and performing procedures to free up consultants and registrars.
